Canadian finalist in Scripps National Spelling Bee

Eleven-year-old Laura Newcombe of Toronto has spelled her way to the final rounds of the 2010 Scripps National Spelling Bee in Washington, D.C.

The Canadian National Spelling Bee Champion is one of the final 10 spellers out of the original 273 competitors.

The spelling bee finals will be broadcast live tonight on ABC at 8 p.m. ET. People can also cheer for Newcombe and follow her progress through the Canspell Facebook page at www.facebook/Canspell.Bee.

Canspell is a free educational program launched in 2005 and is open to students in Grades 4 to 8, with spelling bee competitions that begin at the school level and progress through a series of regional bees.
