Even if the public schools remain closed due to the ongoing conflict between teachers and the provincial government, Prince George RCMP Cpl. Craig Douglass is urging drivers to err on the side of caution when passing through school zones next week.
If the sides remain at odds, Douglass said the 30 km/h limit around those schools will not come into effect. But with classes at the city's private schools ready to start, it will be enforced around those sites, Douglass added.
If you're not sure whether your passing by a public or private school, "go 30," Douglass advised.
"You're not going to get to where you're going much later, the distance of a school zone is usually fairly short," he added. "Err on the side of caution, don't take a chance of running into a child."
Cedars Christian at 701 N. Nechako Rd., and Westside Academy at 3791 Highway 16 West
