Prince George has returned to a special air quality statement roughly 48 hours later.
Environment Canada has reissued its alert for the city's region as weather conditions are pushing wildfire smoke from south of the border further into B.C.'s north.
According to B.C.'s air quality data, Prince George is at a six (6) moderate-index rating, meaning residents with chronic conditions should consider reducing outdoor strenuous activity outdoors, especially if you're experiencing symptoms of smoke inhalation.
Symptoms include:
- Sore throat
- Eye irritation
- Runny nose
- Mild cough
- Phlegm production
- Wheezy breathing
- Headaches
You should also stay in a cool area and drink plenty of fluids.
"Smoke originating from wildfires in the United States will continue to transport over the southern half of the province," Environment Canada explains.
"Impacts in the south will be greater in magnitude than the north. Risk for intermittent smoke in the Skeena region and central coast increases later today through tomorrow. Air quality is expected to begin to improve for all regions over the weekend."
Prince George's forecast for the rest of the week 20 C weather for today (Sept. 17) and tomorrow (Sept. 18), but rain is expected for Saturday morning (Sept. 19) at a 40 per cent chance.
