While Prince George and Kamloops each exceeded their fundraising goals, the friendly B.C. SPCA City Challenge left Kamloops way ahead raising $40,140 and Prince George at $21,406.
The goal for Kamloops was $40,000 and Prince George was $20,000.
Despite the loss, all funds raised stays in the community where it was collected so the battle to provide for animals in need is a little easier.
The month-long City Challenge was held in May and events included barbecues, pub nights, car washes, bottle drives, open houses, mall display and paw print sales.
"The two communities did a phenomenal job in raising urgently needed funds to support abused, neglected, injured and homeless animals," said Lorie Chortyk, general manager of community relations for the B.C. SPCA. "We are incredibly grateful to all the residents of Kamloops and Prince George who turned out to support the events and to show their compassion for their community's most vulnerable animals."
In 2011 the B.C. SPCA cared for more than 32,000 homeless, injured and abused animals, including 2,217 at the North Cariboo Branch in Prince George and 1,231 at the Kamloops Branch.
