With the pending departure of Hugh Nicholson from Prince George on Jan. 3, The Citizen will be conducting a full search for its next publisher.

In the meantime, Colleen Sparrow will be taking on the role on an interim basis. Sparrow brings 20 years of experience at The Citizen to the leadership role, starting with the paper in 1991 in the business office and going on to the circulation department in 1993. In 2003, Sparrow was named circulation manager, overseeing 10 clerical staffers, 40 mailroom workers and 400 carriers delivering 25,000 papers to more than 600 routes.

Sparrow is deeply connected to Prince George, having moved here with her family at the age of six when her father was transferred by his employer, the Hudson Bay Wholesale Company. She and her husband Mike, a CN Rail employee, raised their two daughters in the city.

"I love this community," said Sparrow, "and I look forward to seeing The Citizen and our strong management team into the New Year.

"We have so many great opportunities coming up in the first quarter, including the Bridal Extravaganza, the launch of the new Healthier You magazine and, of course, a newspaper that keeps residents in touch with their community every day."
