Homeowners in certain Prince George neighbourhoods are eligible for complimentary FireSmart property reviews.
The City of Prince George and the Regional District of Fraser-Fort George have teamed up to reduce the risk from wildfire and are working with FireSmart BC to educate homeowners on wildfire risks and share critical information about wildfire prevention and mitigation.
This year, the Regional District is offering complimentary FireSmart property reviews to homeowners in the Pidherny, Malaspina and Broddy Road neighbourhoods to help prioritize and identify opportunities to FireSmart their home.
These neighbourhoods were identified in the 2018 Community Wildfire Protection Plan as having the highest wildfire risk.
“When it comes to being FireSmart, education is everything. From yard maintenance and landscaping best practices to fire-resilient building materials, learning what you can do today to protect yourself from wildfires can save your home and lives tomorrow,” says Anita de Dreu, Emergency Services Coordinator with the Regional District.
The Regional District has reached out to residents in those areas with a postcard with more details, inviting them to contact the Regional District to book their free FireSmart property review.
Interested residents in other neighbourhoods are also encouraged to contact the Regional District at 250-960-4400.
