The beach volleyball courts at Carrie Jane Gray Park in Prince George are expected to open April 2nd.

Spring has arrived, the snow is mostly gone and all signs point to an early opening for some public parks and washroom facilities in Prince George.

Depending on how warm and dry it gets over the next five weeks, all sports fields will remain closed until the beginning of May.

Masich Place Stadium will open for public walking on the rubberized track and will be available for booking for user groups as of Tuesday, April 2nd. Cold, snow or ice on the track will force closure of the stadium and/or cancellation of bookings.

The Jumpstart Multisport Courts off Massey Drive across from the No. 1 Fire Hall opened on Tuesday.

However, the washroom that serves that facility is still undergoing renovations and won’t be open for a few months.

On the south side of Massey Drive, the gates to the ball diamonds and the beach volleyball courts at Carrie Jane Gray Park are expected to be open to the public on April 2nd.

This Thursday the gates to the parking lot for Nechako Riverside Park on the north bank of the Nechako River east of Foothills Boulevard will be opened.

If the weather allows the road access to Connaught Hill Park will open in mid-April.

At Lheidli T’enneh Memorial Park, the spray park will open on May 17, while the park washroom near 17th Avenue is slated for a mid-April opening, depending on the weather. The washroom nearest to The Exploration Place is still months away from being finished. Portable toilets will be installed temporarily in mid-April.

The two separate $500,000 renovation projects at Lheidli T’enneh and Carrie Jane Gray parks were approved by city council.

At Duchess Park Secondary School, the park washroom facilities will open in mid-April (weather dependent).

Outhouses at Rainbow Park (off Ospika Boulevard and Rainbow Drive) and at Nechako Riverside Park will be opening on Thursday.

Th city has drinking water fountains at Masich Place Stadium, Jumpstart/Rotary Skate Park, Duchess Park Dog Park and Ingledew Dog Park, all of which will open once the frost is out of the ground.
