Snowfall warning issued north of Prince George

Heavy snow expected tonight on sections of Highway 97 North

If you’re thinking about heading north on Highway 97 tonight, you might want to delay those travel plans.

Environment Canada has issued a snowfall warning for the Pine Pass for this evening, with between 10 and 15 centimetres of snow expected.

Heavy snowfall is predicted for the areas from Mackenzie Junction southwards, including McLeod Lake, Kennedy, Carp Lake Provincial Park, and Highway 97. Visibility could be suddenly reduced at any time with the heavy snow.

A slow-moving frontal system is traversing the north central Interior today, bringing heavy snow that should ease around midnight. There’s also a risk of freezing drizzle for the area after midnight, which, combined with the fallen snow, could make driving difficult.

For Prince George, there a high probability of rain for the next three days and almost no chance that will turn into snow.

A high of 1 C is expected today with the overnight temperature climbing to 2 C. More rain is expected Wednesday with  predicted high of 6 C and a low of 3 C. Showers will continue Thursday with a high of % C and allow of 4 C.

The rain should stop by Friday with a sunny Saturday in the forecast, along with a drop to more seasonal temperatures.
