Environment Canada has issued a snowfall warning for Prince George and much of the central interior region.

Heavy snowfall is expected in the region starting on Wednesday afternoon and continuing into Thursday, the warning issued on Tuesday afternoon said. Between 10 and 15 centimetres of snow is expected to fall in areas including Prince George, Quesnel, Vanderhoof, Fort St. James, Williams Lake, 100 Mile House, Clinton and McLeese Lake.

“A low pressure centre over the coast will spread snow to the BC Central Interior tomorrow. Snow is expected to begin tomorrow afternoon and intensify in the evening. Heavy snow will taper off early Thursday morning,” the Environment Canada warning says. “Prepare for quickly changing and deteriorating travel conditions. Visibility may be suddenly reduced at times in heavy snow.”

The region is also under an extreme cold warning from Environment Canada, which was issued early Tuesday morning.

“A very cold airmass combined with light to moderate winds will give wind chill values of minus 40 or lower from tonight to Wednesday morning,” the Environment Canada warning says. “Temperatures will increase Wednesday afternoon. Another round of extreme cold wind chill of minus 40 or lower is possible on Friday morning.”

The cold weather warning is in effect in Prince George, south to 100 Mile House and west to the Williston and Lakes District area, east as far as the Peace country.
