The city should get relief from the long-running snowfall this evening, Environment Canada said in an update issued at 4 p.m.

"Snow will abate late this evening in Prince George and by early Saturday in the Yellowhead region, as dry Arctic air settles over the area," the agency said.

It has credited a "slow-moving frontal system" passing over much of the province's central and northern interior, delivering nearly 25 centimetres so far and forecast to bring another five to 15 centimetres tonight.

"If you must travel, keep others informed of your schedule and destination and carry an emergency kit and mobile phone," Environment Canada advises.
