Prince George was hit with a heavy snowfall Friday but not likely not quite enough to set a record.
As of 5 p.m. 13 cm had descended on the city, Environment Canada said, just shy of the record for Dec. 16 of 14.4 cm set in 2000.
The snow continued to fall lightly and it appeared unlikely that it would reach the record amount by the time the day had ended.
A storm warning remained in effect although a bout a freezing rain Environment Canada has forecast to follow was expected to bypass Prince George.
"With warmer air aloft moving into the central interior this evening freezing rain is expected to develop over northern portions of the Prince George region - north of the city of Prince George," Environment Canada said in the warning.
"Freezing rain is also expected to develop over Bulkley Valley and The Lakes - northwest including Smithers this evening. Freezing rain is forecast to continue overnight until temperatures warm above the freezing mark."
