One local cookie dough creator said offering fresh-baked cookies right out of the oven has many benefits.

"What a great guy-catcher for those girls up at UNBC," said Kathy Nadalin, co-ordinator of the Cookie Dough and Pastry Dough Fundraiser for the Elder Citizen Recreation Association.

Nadalin laughed when it was suggested that perhaps it was a better girl catcher for the guys to bake the cookies.

Either way, to have handmade frozen cookie dough at the ready is very convenient and helps take the pressure off everyone during the busy holiday season.

"Just slice it and bake it, it's that easy," Nadalin said. "We can help you with your Christmas baking."

Last year the team of volunteers expected about 200 orders and ended up filling 522, much to their surprise. All proceeds go to the operational costs of the Elder Citizens Recreation Centre

The kitchen at the rec centre will be busy with 16 ladies and gentlemen volunteering this year filling the orders for seven different varieties of cookies.

There is chocolate chip, sugar, ginger snap, snickerdoodles, oatmeal, oatmeal raisin and peanut butter cookies from which to choose. Each order offers three one-pound rolls of cookie dough for $10. The customer can ask for any combination they wish.

"Last year there was a $100 order that came in," said Nadalin. "People can take the dough to work and pop it in the toaster oven for a coffee break at work where they can enjoy a fresh-baked cookie."

Just think how popular you'd be if you did that, she added.

"We are proud to say we can pronounce every ingredient we put in the cookie dough and the recipes are the best of the best - no skimping," said Nadalin.

There is also the option to purchase homemade pastry shells as well. There are two single pie shells in each order for $2.50.

"We're not making a whole lot of money on the pie shells," said Nadalin. "They are so easy to use - just thaw and unroll the shell."

Nadalin is asking everyone to place their orders before Nov. 25 by calling 250-561-9381 or after business hours at 250-964-1118. People can pick up their orders Dec. 9 and 10 at the Elder Citizen Recreation Association Centre, 1692 Tenth Avenue.
