The slow burn inside one of its silos has been extinguished, Pacific BioEnergy said Thursday.
It spent about a week dealing with a breakout of smouldering wood pellets at its plant on Willowcale Road, slowly removing the product while also injecting inert gas into the empty space to prevent a flare up.
The silo was further flooded with water on Thursday morning to fully extinguish the burn.
"We concluded this morning that the smolder event posed no further significant risk. We began cleanup procedures and continue to remove the remaining saturated material," Shawn Bells, the company's vice president of operations said in a statement.
