A smoke detector proved its worth for the occupants of a 9300 Old Summit Lake Road home.
The device awoke them in time to escape from a blaze that broke out in the home shortly after midnight. The two were taken to hospital suffering from smoke inhalation.
Seventeen firefighters from three Prince George Fire Rescue halls arrived to find heavy smoke and flames coming from the rear of the home. It was quickly extinguished, PGFR assistant chief Denis Poulin said, with the damage contained to the kitchen and dining areas.
No indication at this time of the cause or estimate of damage.
