Police officers witnessed more than they bargained for when they investigated a report of a male breaking into vehicles in the city earlier this week.

Just before 2 a.m. on Oct. 17, Prince George RCMP responded to a parking lot on Ahbau Street and found a vehicle with a broken side window.

Upon closer investigation, officers discovered a male in the back seat - with his pants down and performing a lewd act.

"The adult male was arrested and ordered to keep his hands up," according to RCMP spokesperson Cpl. Craig Douglass.

The man was found in possession of knives, flashlights, tools and electronic devices police believe to have been stolen. He was also found to be breaching a number of conditions, including a curfew, from previous court appearance.

Other damaged vehicles were in close proximity to where the suspect was arrested.

Matthew Richard Lozon has been charged with mischief ($5,000 or under), possession of a break-in instrument and breach of probation order.

The Prince George RCMP would like to remind the public not to leave valuables in their vehicles and to always keep the doors locked.

"Although in this case damage was done to the vehicle, the vast majority of thieves will not break windows in fear of being heard," said Douglass. "In those cases, the thief will just try the door and if it is locked, he/he will move on to the next unlocked vehicle."
