Small items catching thieves' eyes

A bottle of pop was all it took for a thief to smash the window of a car, during a recent rash of vehicle break-ins. The soda was the only thing taken from a Toyota Echo parked in the 6000 block of Amar Crescent.

A bottle of pop was all it took for a thief to smash the window of a car, during a recent rash of vehicle break-ins.

The soda was the only thing taken from a Toyota Echo parked in the 6000 block of Amar Crescent. Police are warning the public that anything left in view inside an unattended vehicle could be attractive to thieving vandals.

On the same day, Friday, Prince George police also got reports of vehicle break-ins in the 3200 block of 22nd Avenue (stolen: iPod, transmitter, skull-shaped shift knob, pack of cigarettes). On Saturday it was a Ford Escape hit in the 300 block of Killoren Crescent (stolen: a backpack with personal items).

On Sunday an unlocked Dodge pickup was entered (stolen: cash and a GPS unit) in the 2200 block of Sadler Drive; a Chrysler Intrepid in the 1400 block of Ingenika Street had ignition damage in an attempted vehicle theft; a Chevrolet Impala in the 7900 block of Rochester Crescent was hit (stolen: iPod, PSP game system, CDs, sunglasses); and door and window damage was done to a Chevrolet pickup in the 2000 block of Bowser Avenue.

Monday brought more incidents. In the 7500 block of Gladstone Drive, a Chevrolet Cavalier had a satellite radio stolen; a Pontiac Vibe was targeted in the 400 block of George Street (stolen: binoculars, camera, two fishing rods with gear) and signs of attempts to steal the car; the 1100 block of Babine Crescent had a Honda Ridgeline and a Dodge Caravan were rummaged through; loose change was all that was taken from a vehicle in the 1100 block of Dahl Street and this was not the first theft from this same vehicle; and in the 1500 block of 12th Avenue, a socket set stolen from the back of a Ford pickup.

It is not known if any or all of these incidents are the work of the same thief or thieves. Prince George RCMP urge the public to keep vehicles clear of any visible items a thief might want, with no regard to your windows and doors.
