A small fire at PG Sawmill brought a full contingent from Prince George Fire Rescue Service on Thursday evening.

Short work was made of the blaze, limiting the damage to less than $5,000.

"The fire was located in the attic space between the roof and ceiling of the planner at PG Sawmill," said assistant fire chief Elden Gjerde. "The initial attack crew cut an access hole in the wall and entered the void. The fire was quickly located and extinguished and the area was checked for extension - none found."

The call came in at about 5:15 p.m. with 16 firefighters from three municipal firehalls responding. Once finished, the mill's in-house fire crew committed to observe the burned area for precautionary reasons.

"The cause is under investigation," said Gjerde, noting that work was being done to the building's roof earlier the same day.

There were no injuries.
