Foothills Boulevard and Highland Drive was the scene of a slippery road accident about 8 a.m. Monday.

RCMP said a north bound van slid out of control and hit a south bound vehicle head on, forcing one of the vehicles into the ditch. Both vehicles received extensive front end damage, and both female drivers were transported to the University Hospital of Northern B.C. with whiplash-related injuries.

A 44-year-old female was issued a fine and charged under the Motor Vehicle Act with driving contrary to road conditions.

RCMP, who contacted city crews to assist with the slippery road conditions, remind drivers to slow down with winter road conditions now upon us.

"In order to prevent a collision, make sure you have plenty of space between you and the vehicle in front of you. Give yourself extra time during your commute to work or other destination to compensate for added travel time.

"Ensure you have good winter tires on your vehicle and always drive carefully and in consideration of the road conditions," said RCMP Const. Lesley Smith, media relations officer.
