A Prince George RCMP officer's contribution to apprehending a man suspected of committing sexual assault in a city park has been acknowledged.

Cst. Eric Dahl was presented with a district officer?s certificate of appreciation during an awards ceremony for the investigational work he provided, while off duty.

Keanen Drew Norman Duncan, 20, was arrested the day after the alleged May 4 incident at Lorne Park.

Dahl, who attended the scene at the time of the report, was driving in the vicinity when he spotted a man he believed matched the description of the suspect and contacted his on-duty colleagues who made the arrest.

Dahl's work also helped police obtain a search warrant for the suspect's home and evidence was seized that helped convince provincial Crown counsel to approve charges against Duncan, according to police.

Duncan has remained in custody since his arrest.

Also, four civilian members at the North District Operational Communication Centre were recognized for their quick response after receiving a call regarding a man who was allegedly holding a woman against her will in a transport truck he was driving.

Certificates of appreciation were presented to Tami Kaczmarek, Lindsay Knight, Sarah Randall and Jennifer Schenkeveld.

As well, Cpl. Chris Knight of the North District RCMP firearms and training unit received a 30-year long service silver clasp, and Cpl. John Graham of the North District RCMP road safety unit and Sgt. Suzanne McKelvie of the North District RCMP major crime section received 25-year long service bronze clasps.

And among those to receive 20-year long service medals were Sgt. Holly Lavin of the Prince George RCMP and civilian Donald McKelvie of the North District OCC.

As well, volunteers Elsie Adrian, Heather Spicer, Helen Schwartz, and John Pellizzari were all honoured for contributing over 5,000 hours of service over 15 years to the Prince George RCMP's community policing section.

The awards and acknowledgments were presented during ceremonies last week.
