Twenty forestry workers in the Prince George area will receive free skills training, thanks to a $1.5 million provincial initiative.

The SkillsPlus initiative is part of the provincial government's jobs plan and will provide training for 450 people across B.C. In Prince George, the program will be offered through the Prince George Nechako Aboriginal Employment Training Association.

PGNAETA received $68,709 to provide training for 20 workers identified by the Central Interior Logging Association.

Skills training will focus on literacy, computer use, customer service skills and communication.

"Our government's top priority is job creation and economic growth. By enabling British Columbians to develop their essential skills, through projects such as SkillsPlus, we are helping to ensure that they can fully participate in the labour market and contribute to their communities," Minister of Human Resources and Skills Development Diane Finley said in a written statement.
