Starting today, a B.C. Supreme Court Justice will hear Coun. Brian Skakun's appeal of last year's finding that he violated B.C.'s protection of privacy legislation.

In May 2011, Provincial Court Judge Ken Ball found Skakun guilty of a leaking confidential personnel documents to CBC Radio in Prince George and fined him $750. Skakun's lawyer, Jon Duncan, filed a notice of appeal a month after the decision.

In October, council decided against censuring Skakun but that did not stop him for pursuing the appeal, maintaining the case has implications for elected officials across the country.
