Coun. Brian Skakun admitted to leaking confidential documents to a local media outlets but maintained he was unaware he may have violated privacy legislation when he took to the stand during his trial in provincial court this afternoon.

Skakun told the court he gave the documents to CBC Radio sometime in August 2008 but did not expect they would be posted on the CBC's website. A copy of the labour lawyer Kitty Heller's report into the conduct of Anne Bailey, the top civilian employee at the Prince George RCMP detachment, was posted for a brief period on CBC's website on August 19, 2008.

Skakun said he called the station to demand the report be taken off the website.

"I phoned them and I told them I didn't give you permission to do that, I wanted you to investigate this and take it off there please," Skakun said.
