Single case of COVID-19 reported in northern B.C.

One new case of COVID-19 was reported in the Northern Health region on Friday.

The case was one of 45 new cases reported in the province, according to a statement issued by the B.C. Ministry of Health.

As of Friday, there were 652 active cases of COVID-19 in B.C., including 29 in the north. A total of 60 people in the province were hospitalized with COVID, of which 12 were in intensive care.

One person was hospitalized and in critical care in the Northern Health region.

No new COVID-related deaths were reported on Friday, leaving he province’s death toll from the pandemic at 1,761 – including 157 residents of the Northern Health region.

As of Friday, 79.5 per cent of eligible British Columbians (everyone ages 12 and up) have received at least one dose of COVID-19 vaccine, and 49.9 per cent were fully vaccinated. More than six million doses of COVID-19 vaccine have been administered in the province, including 272,466 in the Northern Health region.

Since the start of the pandemic, there have been 148,311 cases of COVID-19 in B.C., including 7,809 in the Northern Health region.
