Greg Stewart of Prince George has been appointed board chair of the B.C. Council of Forest Industries.
The longtime president of Sinclar Group Forest Products will succeed Canfor president and CEO Don Kayne, who held the position on the COFI board since 2019.
“I am excited to take on this role and continue the work with fellow COFI members, government, Indigenous Peoples, labour, communities, supply chain partners and others to help shape the future of the forest sector in B.C.,” said Stewart in prepared release.
“The COFI membership is made up of companies big and small from all over the province, who are working to ensure we maximize the power of sustainable forestry and forest products to help fight climate change, advance reconciliation with Indigenous Peoples and keep supporting good jobs and strong communities across B.C.”
Since 2006, Stewart has been with Sinclar Group, a company his grandfather founded. Born and raised in Prince George, he spent his first three years with the company leading its Winton Homes division, where he gained experience in the retail/engineering side of the business. A graduate of Ivey School of Business at Western Ontario University in 2005, he also worked for Teck Comino in Trail before he earned his degree in business administration. He became Sinclar Group president in 2009.
Stewart is the current chair of the Wood WORKS! BC provincial steering committee. He also serves as a UNBC governor, a board director for the BC Lumber Trade Council and is the past chair of BC Wood.

COFI represents most B.C. producers of lumber, pulp and paper, and manufactured wood products. The organization advocates for the interests of its members and works with government, First Nations, labour groups and other partners to create a healthy, diversified and sustainable forest industry that benefits British Columbians.
