It's merry and bright and a ticket to win it fits right into that Christmas stocking.
The Spruce Kings Show Home is a little different this year.
The lottery show home is sleek in design and layout speaks to ultra-modern conveniences while allowing a family to live comfortably in its light-filled rooms.
It's 2,600 square feet located at 2722 Links Dr. and worth more than $710,000.
Built by Hopson Construction and designed by the company's co-owner, Katie McCutcheon, the home offers a ground-level office, laundry room, family room and gym, while the upper level opens up from kitchen to dining room to living room that features a vaulted ceiling with a gas fireplace. Of course, a feature that's become a signature for any Spruce Kings hockey team lottery home is the extra-wide staircase so when it comes time for a member of the team to move their gear, there's plenty of room.
It's a three-bedroom home, which comes with the master suite nicely appointed with a shower built for two and a walk-in closet.
The deck off the dining room faces west so sunsets can by enjoyed all year round.
"The sun comes up into the kitchen every morning and sets in the living room," McCutcheon said. "It's really nice."
And let's talk about the uber-luxury item that stands loud and proud in the kitchen.
It's a smart fridge that basically has a giant-screened tablet in its door. From your phone while at the grocery store, you can see the inside of the fridge, checking to see what's needed.
And if your pet peeve is people lingering with the fridge door open, a touch of the screen can offer an inside view of the fridge from the other side of the big double doors.
The countertop contrasting against the white cabinets is a white oak that's easy to refresh every couple of months with a cream cleanser.
"This countertop was created by 3D Wood Design and it's food safe and it's easy maintenance," McCutcheon said.
Putting the natural wood elements into the home was very important to McCutcheon.
"It's a reflection of our community," she said. "When you think of Prince George you think of wood and trees and nature and I wanted to keep that flow in the house."
In keeping with that idea, McCutcheon added some live plants, too. She knows it's a bit of extra work but it was important to her to bring in those natural elements.
During the design process, McCutcheon said she always kept in mind who the house was built for and that's a Prince George family. She said her priorities were low maintenance and ease of use for every feature of the home.
"We've been getting lots of positive feedback from those who have viewed the house and that's encouraging," McCutcheon said.
Getting tickets early allows for more chances to win as there are still some early bird prizes to be had.
"Ticket sales have been great and the traffic through the house has been phenomenal," McCutcheon said. "It's so nice to see the support from the community every year."
This is the biggest fundraising effort for the non-profit organization. Funds are used immediately to support the Spruce Kings hockey team in their current season of play.
Purchasing tickets early offers a chance to win early bird prizes, including a draw on Feb. 14, which features a specially designed necklace, pedicures, a romantic overnight stay at a local hotel, a gift card for a delicious dinner at a local fine-dining restaurant, and a building supply store gift card to improve your home. The last early bird prize draw date is March 29 and offers the lucky winner a trip for two anywhere WestJet flies. Draw date for the Spruce Kings Show Home is May 3 and the last day to purchase tickets is April 30 at 10 p.m. to ensure all protocols are conducted to ensure all tickets are included in the draw.
