A man arrested in a shots fired incident this past summer was sentenced Monday to jail time served for possession for the purpose of trafficking.
The more serious charges of unlawful discharge of a firearm and careless use of a firearm against Darius Trey Veld, 25, were stayed during a disposition hearing in Prince George provincial court.
Had he been convicted on those counts, Veld would have faced at least three years in jail.
Charges are stayed when the court has determined there is not enough evidence for a prosecution. If more evidence is uncovered within a year, the case can be revived for an indictable offence.
Veld had spent 128 days in custody after he was arrested following a July 9 incident at a 700-block Freeman Street home that saw a stray bullet go through a neighbour's window narrowly missing the two adults and two children who live in that home.
At the time, RCMP said "multiple people" armed with guns showed up at the home in a vehicle and forced their way in. Police, who were called to the scene at 5:40 p.m. also believed the shots were fired inside the home.
Veld was also sentenced to one year probation and issued a 10-year firearms prohibition on the trafficking conviction.
