Matt Houghton, owner of Exile Tattoo, has been earning a lot of karma points over the last two days.
A member of Houghton's family, Bill Reid was recently diagnosed with strep throat and last week, Reid went into cardiac arrest in the middle of the night.
After he was transferred to University Hospital of Northern B.C., he was resuscitated four times before being stabilized.
Reid, 34, works at the Prince George Correctional Facility and was considered very health until now.
Houghton realized he could help with raising money for Reid and his wife to cover any costs. On Sunday, the shop has raised between $1,200 and $1,500 and the fundraiser continues today.
"Most businesses or stores have huge overhead to keep in mind, whereas for me, all I have to worry about is my time. So we are donating 100 per cent of all small tattoos that take less than an hour to complete to the family," said Houghton.
After announcing the fundraiser the phone started ringing off the hook.
"We were all booked up in a matter of hours," said Houghton.
Gift certificates purchased today will also go towards the Reid's.
"It's a win-win for everyone. It helps [Reid's] family and it makes me feel good to give back," said Houghton.
He opened the shop in October and said the response has been great from the community.
"I've lived in Vancouver, Edmonton and the Okanagan and I've never been in a city that takes it's tattooing so seriously," said Houghton.
