A Quesnel teacher has been suspended from his job and is facing sex offense allegations.

Ronald Norman Ball was arrested on June 11 and is the subject of pending charges for sexual interference, sexual assault, and sexual exploitation.

Quesnel RCMP spokeswoman Const. Krista Vrolyk said the allegations stem from "an incident involving a student which occurred in his classroom in March of this year."

Police arrested Ball after Correlieu secondary school officials became concerned "after receiving information that a student had been touched for a sexual purpose while in attendance at the school," Vrolyk said, adding that the student at the centre of the allegations was under the age of 16 but gave no further details about the victim.

Ball was released on a recognizance and is scheduled to appear in Quesnel Provincial Court on June 22 for his first formal court appearance. Crown counsel has approved charges and the matter has already been before a Justice of the Peace.

He is also bound by a court ordered condition to refrain from teaching anyone under the age of 18 until further notice.

School District 28 reportedly issued a statement on the matter on Thursday but it was not in evidence on their website and no one answered the district's phone when the Citizen called for comment.
