RCMP are lauding the public for helping to track down a man suspected of committing a sexual assault in Prince George.
Roughly a week-and-a-half after police issued a notice saying they believe he is living on Vancouver Island, Campbell River RCMP apprehended Christopher Lloyd Dixon, 38, on Friday.
"This is an excellent example of how the public, media and police can work together to help make their community safer," Cst. Maury Tyre said.
"People were aware that Dixon may have been in the community thanks to media articles, somebody saw him and called police and that led to the police being able to zone in on his whereabouts and apprehend him."
Dixon faces one count each of sexual assault, sexual interference and sexual exploitation from an August 2017 allegation involving a girl under age 18.
A warrant for his arrest was issued in September 2019 after he failed to appear in court.
