Sex trade workers, services on high alert

When Prince George RCMP recently discovered the body of a women in a local park, alarm bells went off among sex trade workers and the local agencies that provide services for them.

When Prince George RCMP recently discovered the body of a women in a local park, alarm bells went off among sex trade workers and the local agencies that provide services for them.

Especially since two women, described as living at high-risk, have recently been reported missing.

"We are on high alert," said Bally Bassi, program director at Elizabeth Fry Society,

"As an agency that provides services we are emphasizing as much safety information as we can to our clients -- letting loved ones know where you are and knowing the resources that are available out there," said Bassi.

Sharon Hurd, executive director with Phoenix transition home, said there's no doubt those in the sex trade are fearful, "wondering what happened to this women who was found and why . . . all those unanswered questions are there on their minds". Read more in The Citizen.
