A woman was attacked by a sexual offender late at night, this weekend. He was a stranger to her, and police are on the hunt for this assailant.

Police are calling the attack an aggravated sexual assault. It happened in the vicinity of Freeman Park ball fields near St. Mary's School late Saturday night.

"Sometime after dark, (the female victim) came across a group of people drinking in the bleachers of the baseball diamond," said Prince George RCMP Const. Vince Reddekopp. "After consuming some alcohol, the party broke up and the people left the area."

It was not disclosed if what happened next involved someone from the party the female had joined, or someone else.

"While the female was making her way from the park, a male unknown to the victim, attacked her, physically and sexually assaulting her," Reddekopp said. "The male was scared away by a passing car."

The victim was admitted to hospital and was recovering from her injuries as of press time. She came forward to police with a description to help find this perpetrator, to both bring him to justice for this incident and perhaps prevent a future attack on another unsuspecting victim.

The attacker was described as a Caucasian male in his mid-40s; short, dirty-blonde hair, about 5-foot-4 to 5-foot-6 in height, average build, no glasses on, and no noticeable facial hair.

Reddekopp said police are urging anyone who might know who this person is, or who saw anyone in the Freeman Park area on Saturday after dark, to contact police as soon as possible. Likewise, if the man who did this now feels remorse, he can also call police to bring about a quick resolution for this victim.
