The Prince George RCMP's serious crime section has taken over the investigation into Barry Blain Seymour, the Fort Ware man who was reported missing two weeks ago.

There remains no evidence that Seymour has been a victim of foul play, but the section has the resources, expertise and time to pursue the case, Prince George RCMP Cpl. Craig Douglass said.

"Even though a missing person is not a crime until it's determined to be a crime but it certainly would fall into their mandate," Douglass.

Seymour was reported missing on Sat., May 26 and the last reported sighting was on Wed., May 23. He came to Prince George with family members to attend his son's birthday and opted to stay in the city for a few more days, Douglass said.

Officers from the sections have followed up on a number of leads and conducted many interviews, but so far remain stumped as to Seymour's whereabouts and a request for information from the public on the matter has been renewed.

"It seems a little strange in the sense we haven't been able to confirm any other sightings and that's concerning," Douglass said. "Sometimes we get reports where people just don't want to be found but we still have sightings of them so we know they're around. But in this case, we haven't been able to confirm anything new, which is concerning for us."

He is described as aboriginal, 32 years old, 170 cm (5'7") tall, weighing 79 kg (174 lbs), with black hair and brown eyes.

Family members have been out around the city putting up posters asking for the public's help and RCMP has been in regular contact with them, Douglass said.
