Ray Olson, local author and historian, will be presenting a speaker series at the Central B.C. Railway and Forestry Museum about the forest industry.
Olson, who spent his career working in forestry, said the speaking events are inspired by his great interest in the subject.
Olson will present his talks on Feb. 16, March 1 and March 8 from 1 to 3 p.m.
"History has always been my thing, local history, family history," Olson said. "During the series I will be talking about the history of the area including Alexander Mackenzie to the coming of the railway to this area. So I'll be filling in all the gaps about the Hudson Bay people, the fur traders, explorers, the gold seekers."
Olson said it took hours and hours of research to get the information presented during the speaker series. He turned to the internet to get some of the information and more was shared by story tellers who offered first-hand accounts of their own personal experiences.
Olson, who is the self-published author of the book Ghost Towns of the East Line, will share information about the logging towns and sawmills that existed back in the industry's fledgling years.
Olson often invites guest speakers and those who are in the audience to share their personal stories as part of each presentation.
The speaker series takes place at the Central B.C. Railway and Forestry Museum, 850 River Road. The events are free and light refreshments will be served.
