After escaping the wetness for most of the month, enough rain fell on Prince George to more than exceed the amount the city receives in a typical September.
Rainfall of 23 millimetres on Friday was followed up by 20.1 mm on Saturday, Environment Canada meteorologist Jim Steele said, raising the total for the month to 75 mm, well above the norm of 52 mm.
"Definitely wetter than normal," Steele commented.
Up until those two days, rain was recorded on just four days this month.
However, the amounts that fell on Friday and Saturday are still well below the records for those days. On Sept. 23, 1964, Prince George was struck with 31 mm and on Sept. 24, 1964 was drenched with a further 33 mm, which is also the one-day record for September as a whole.
"Still 23 mm is still a big rain," Steele said. "As they say on the prairies, it was a real gully washer."
