A Prince George man has been sentenced to a further 13 months in jail for breaking into a seniors home where his father lives.
Vincent Albert Martin, 34, received the term Thursday in Prince George provincial court for an Aug. 12 incident at Gateway Lodge, the seniors assisted living facility at Victoria and 20th.
Martin, who has been in custody since the incident, was described in court as a drug addict who steals to support his habit and saw an opportunity while at Gateway visiting his father.
Just a few weeks before the incident, Martin was acquitted of a separate offence and released from custody and soon found himself back on drugs, the court was told, and it's hoped the most recent sentence will give him time to clear his head once more.
Martin has an extensive criminal record and court records indicate it will be the longest jail term he has received. But if not for a joint submission from Crown prosecution and Martin's defence lawyer, he likely would have faced a much longer sentence, judge Victor Galbraith warned.
Galbraith did agree to allow Martin to visit his father once out of jail subject to permission in advance from his parole officer.
