Active Hart Seniors is a Relay For Life team of four ladies who range in age between 64 and 83 years.

The team has been going strong for four years with Pearl Hiebert as their anchor that inspires each of her team members to keep doing what they're doing.

The team will be out in full force during the nation's only 24-Hour Relay for Life for the Canadian Cancer Society held Saturday and Sunday at Masich Place.

The group laughs about how they can make it so they appear younger on paper by inverting the numbers in their age as they sit and chat in Hiebert's cozy living room.

The only one it doesn't work for is the 78 year old whose results when she switched it up brought her age to 87 and she certainly wasn't happy with that and chose not to be identified because, really, a lady does not reveal her age, she said.

Hiebert is joined by Ruth Munn, Carmand Wagner and Deanna Carter and they've all been touched by cancer either having had it themselves or losing many family members and friends.

Hiebert beat cancer 47 years ago and has lost four brothers to the dreaded disease.

"I felt the need to repay," said Hiebert, who fundraises year round by recycling her bottles and directing the funds to the Active Hart Seniors for the Relay for Life. "And I always hound my relatives and friends."

The group held a garage sale and then held a white elephant sale to help fundraise for the Relay for Life and to date have raised more than $3,700. They're hoping to raise a grand total of $5,000.

To donate online visit the Canadian Cancer Society at www.cancer.ca and search for Active Hart Seniors to direct the funds through their team.
