The second Quince Street fire within two blocks and two weeks was handled by firefighters over the weekend.

On Saturday at approximately 11:30 a.m. a blaze broke out in the 2100 block of Quince, bringing 15 firefighters from three halls.

"On arrival, first in-crews found a side-by-side two-story duplex with fire and heavy smoke coming from a window on one side of the building," said Prince George Fire-Rescue Service assistant chief Drew Larsen. "Tenants had vacated the building safely. Fire crews quickly knocked down the fire and continued with overhaul. There were no injuries to residents or fire crew personnel at this incident however victim services were called in to care for the families."

Property damage was estimated at $50,000.

The fire is not considered to be suspicious at this time however a fire investigator has been called in to determine the cause of the fire.

It was another duplex on Quince, this one in the 2000 block, that brought both firefighters and police back on Feb. 24. Deemed to be a case of arson, this fire was called in in the early hours and was found to have at least two different ignition points. No one was living in that duplex apartment, but the adjoining neighbours had to be evacuated. That investigation is still underway.
