Another major residential structure fire in the past two days kept Prince George Fire-Rescue crews busy late at night.
According to assistant fire chief Blake King, the alarm was raised just after 2 a.m. Friday, bringing 17 firefighters from three halls to the 2000 block of Quince Street.
"The first in-crew found heavy smoke coming from the top floor of a side-by-side two story duplex," said King. "The involved side of the duplex was vacant at the time of the fire incident. Fire crews were able to quickly extinguish and contain the fire to the involved side of the duplex."
Two residents were evacuated from the other side of the duplex while the fire was being extinguished but were otherwise unaffected by the blaze, King said. There were no injuries.
Fire investigators are currently attempting to determine the cause of the fire. Damage is estimated at approximately $50,000.
It was another multi-unit dwelling that had firefighters in action only 26 hours earlier. In that case, a three-story apartment building was the scene of a fire apparently caused by carelessly discarded smoking materials which ignited a mattress on the main floor.
