An updated design for the proposed park behind the Wood Innovation Design Centre has been put together following further public input.
The initial design was presented in mid-April at a city council meeting and a public open house with construction expected to take place this summer. But work was pushed back to next year to allow more detailed design work and to finish work to underground telephone and hydro lines.
More consultation with groups such as the Downtown PG, the Lheidli T'enneh First Nation, and the advisory committee on accessibility took place in late August and early September, according to an update prepared for Monday night's city council meeting.
Those meetings brought forward a variety of themes around safety and security, future land use and park finishing touches, said the staff report.
Neighbouring property owners Tracy and John Kason wrote a letter to city council earlier this month expressing their complaints regarding the park.
While in favour of what WIDC and the proposed transit hub bring to the neighbourhood, the Kasons were opposed to the park itself.
The city has green space at city hall, Canada Games Plaza and near the Regional District of Fraser-Fort George office and the courthouse and the proposed park doesn't add downtown business or taxpayers "added value or quality of life."
The reduction of parking space to accommodate the park was also frowned upon as was the potential for limits to future development in the area.
Design drawings will be mostly completed this fall with the project expected to go out to tender later this year for a spring 2016 construction.
