A second candidate has withdrawn from the School District 57 byelection.
In an email on Thursday, Lance Forsberg said he intends to withdraw his name as a candidate.
“Unfortunately (I) applied in haste, having learnt about the position only just before the deadline to apply, and did not fully realize all that would be involved,” Forsberg said. “But since getting all the information, I realized that I just don't have the time to apply myself to the position as much as I should, and have pulled my candidacy.”
Forsberg was one of five candidates listed in an official declaration of candidates issued by School District 57 Chief Election Officer Darleen Patterson on Dec. 10. Candidates have until Friday to withdraw their candidacy.
After Friday, a candidate can still withdraw, but it would require provincial approval to remove their name from the ballot.
Five candidates from Prince George remain in the Jan. 15 byelection. Andrew Burton, Shannon Freeman, Milton Mahoney, Audrey McKinnon and Brian Trotter are running to fill the seat left by the resignation of former board chairperson Trent Derrick. In Mackenzie David Scucsko and Rachael Weber are running to fill the seat left by the resignation of former vice-chairperson Shuirose Valimohamed.
Stuart Parker announced his candidacy on Dec. 2, but did not file his nomination papers after Minister of Education Jennifer Whiteside called on Parker to withdraw from the race.
