Four people matching the description of a missing Oregon family have been spotted from the air near Dease Lake.
"Further resources are being obtained to reach the people and bring then to safety," RCMP said in a statement issued at about 3:30 p.m. "Although the identity of the individuals has not been confirmed, authorities are hopeful that these are who they have been looking for."
A black 2018 Toyota Yaris with Oregon License Plate 099KRW, linked to Jeffery Phan, 24, Michelle Lesaca, 24, Satana Phan, 3, and Satan Phan, 2 was found Monday on the powerline route off Highway 37.
A search for the family was subsequently launched.
Police said they had planned to travel to the Philippines from Portland on May 25 but the tickets were cancelled and they never boarded the plane, RCMP said.
Instead, family entered Canada at the Roosville Border crossing near Fernie on June 9.
A sign on the car indicated the driver had run out of fuel and had gone to get some. However, all checks with area gas stations had been unsuccessful.
