Search on for shooting suspect

A Prince George resident was shot in the arm, apparently after an argument between two men who knew each other.

A Prince George resident was shot in the arm, apparently after an argument between two men who knew each other.

The shooting occurred Monday evening in the vicinity of Alward Street and 10th Avenue, as best police can determine, and they are looking for public help filling in any blanks.

Police were alerted to the shooting by staff at the University Hospital of Northern B.C., less than five blocks from the gunfire. Mounties were called in just before 6 p.m. The victim was a 33-year-old local man.

"He is well known to police and indication is that he was in a verbal altercation with the suspect before the shooting occurred," said Prince George RCMP spokesman Cpl. Craig Douglass. "I wouldn't call [the victim] a gang member but he is definitely associated to gangs. Investigators believe that this shooting was a targeted attack and there is no threat to the public."

With the snow falling at that hour, and all the pedestrian and vehicle traffic through that area before police arrived at the scene, clues were hard to find even with the use of a police dog.

Police could determine that the suspect was a 30- to 35-year-old Caucasian male, approximately six feet tall, with short brown hair, blue jeans and a black jacket.

The victim is expected to make a full recovery.

The shooting happened sometime between 5 p.m. and 6 p.m.

"We are asking for people in that area at the time, to think back and if there is anything you heard or saw that might be connected to this, investigators would like to speak to you. If you have any information at all, this is a very serious matter," Douglass said.
