Sealcoating on Highway 97, north of Prince George, is set to begin in mid-June, thanks to a $1.64-million contract from the B.C. government.
This project will deliver 48 kilometres of crack seal and sealcoat treatment to Highway 97 between Bear Lake and Whiskers Point, the Ministry of Transportation said Friday.
This project is part of B.C. on the Move, the B.C. government's 10-year transportation plan to improve the province's transportation network.
Sealcoating seals out moisture and provides a skid-resistant, dust-free driving surface while increasing reflectivity for nighttime driving and reducing maintenance costs.
"Road safety is a top priority for our government," Prince George-Mackenzie MLA Mike Morris said. "Sealcoating this section of highway will help create a smoother riding surface, a higher level of dust control and will increase driving safety for the traveling public and commercial users."
Work will be done by AWA Asphalt Ltd. of Vernon and is expected to be completed by mid-September.
