Police rushed back to the spot a woman's body was recently found, but they came away with no new incident to investigate.
On Thursday night a massive area around L.C. Gunn Park was cordoned off by police and checked over for signs of foul play after 911 calls raised concern.
"We were acting on information called in to us that a set of lights was seen and a loud scream for help was heard in that vicinity," said Prince George RCMP spokesman Cpl. Craig Douglass. "It was believed that the screams were coming from L.C. Gunn Park and that it was the voice of a female, but we could not confirm that."
Police spent hours covering the ground between Highway 16 near the jail and the BCR Industrial Site that encompasses the forested park. Both shorelines along the Fraser were also searched, as was Fort George Park on the other side of the river from the main search area. Douglass said additional patrols went back to the area long after the perimeter was taken down.
"This is obviously concerning to us," said Douglass. "Anytime you have a report of this nature, we take that very seriously. The remoteness of the park is a factor, and so is the fact we did find a deceased female at that place in the relatively recent past, so it was something we did not take lightly."
No incidents were reported to police following the search that would suggest someone was in fact the victim of foul play, but anytime something suspicious suggests someone needs help, Doulgass urged the public to call that in as soon as possible so police can attend to make sure.
