Scottish curler, Olympic silver-medalist Tom Brewster visiting Prince George as part of Olympic Celebration Tour

A big name in the curling world will be in northern B.C.'s capital this week as part of the lead up to the 2020 Women's World Curling Championship in Prince George next month. 

Scottish curler Tom Brewster will make two stops in Prince George this Friday (Feb. 21) with the first being at Harwin Elementary School at 9:30 a.m. and then a wine and cheese social at the Prince George Golf and Curling Club (PGGCC).

Brewster won a silver medal with Great Britain at the 2014 Olympic Winter Games in Sochi, Russia where they lost to Canada in the finals. 

While at the elementary school in the morning, the international curlier will hold three learn-to-curl sessions with students with each lasting 45 minutes. 

From 4 to 6 p.m. that evening, you can meet Brewer and enjoy wine and cheese at the PGGCC (2601 Replace Dr.). The wine tasting will be by Hester Creek.

The 2020 Women's World Curling Championship will be in Prince George from Mar. 14 to 22 with a total of 13 international teams competing at the CN Centre. The teams will be:

  • Switzerland (defending champions)

  • Czech Republic
  • Denmark
  • Germany
  • Russia
  • Scotland
  • Sweden
  • United States
  • Italy
  • South Korea

Canada's representative is still to be determined this week with whoever wins the 2020 Scotties Tournament of Hearts in Moose Jaw, Sask.
