A Prince George man has been sentenced to 18 months probation for assault causing bodily harm in relation to an attack on the grounds of D.P. Todd Secondary School 14 months ago.
Provincial court judge Michael Brecknell handed the term to Marc Robert Gilles Vezina on Thursday for a midday April 7, 2010 attack in which police responded to a call that a 16-year-old male was assaulted and stabbed.
The youth was taken to hospital where he received treatment for non-life-threatening injuries.
A 16-year-old female friend, attempting to intervene, was also physically assaulted, but did not require medical assistance.
Vezina, 20, had originally been charged with two counts of assault with a weapon but the charges were downgraded to one count of assault causing bodily harm prior to sentencing.
A second man, Jesse M. Anderson, 19, was also arrested at the time and charged with two counts of assault but those charges were stayed in mid March.
Neither Vezina nor Andersen was a student at the school and Prince George RCMP said at the time that both were known to police.
