Highglen Montessori elementary school has secured $20,000 to purchase solar panels.

The money comes from SolarBC, a partnership between the provincial government and industry, in the form of a grant.

Students at the school will be involved right from the start by helping to select the best location and angle for the panel.

Once up and running, students will take daily readings to find out how much power is produced to determine greenhouse gas emissions and energy savings.

"This is a great way to showcase to students the importance of energy conservation and the importance of reducing our greenhouse gas emissions in British Columbia," said Prince George-Mackenzie MLA Pat Bell in a press release.

Highglen was among 11 schools selected from a list of 51 to receive a $20,000 grant.
