A Prince George woman is suing School District 57 and the Prince George Minor Football Association after she suffered injuries when she fell down an embankment when entering Masich Place stadium to see a football game nearly four years ago.
According to a notice of civil claim, Sheryl Moreau fractured her left ankle badly enough to need screws and a plate installed and also fractured her lower left leg and tore a ligament in her left knee.
The injuries occurred on the night of Friday, Oct. 3, 2008, when Moreau slipped and fell as she was entering the stadium through its south end where fans need to walk down an incline and just as there was a temporary power outage.
Moreau is claiming she continues to suffer pain and loss of earnings - she worked as a meter reader - as well as continuing to incur costs for medical treatment and had been unable to perform homemaking duties without help.
She is also claiming the south entrance is too steep to be used as an entrance, entrants were not warned about the bank's steepness and should not have been allowed to enter when there was inadequate lighting.
In a response, the school district maintained the south entrance was reasonably safe, any hazards were clearly obvious and denied the power outage contributed to the mishap. Even if the lack of lighting was a problem, Moreau should have known better than to enter when the power was out.
The school district also asserts Moreau failed to take adequate steps to expedite her recovery.
Moreau's notice of civil claim was filed in October 2010 and the school district's response was filed in September 2011. The case has now reached the examinations for discovery stage.
