Starting this month, School District 57 board of eduction meetings will be recorded and archived online for one year.
During a special meeting on Jan. 5, the board approved the change. Since the start of the pandemic, the district's board of education has been meeting virtually and live-streaming their meetings on YouTube.
Up until Tuesday's decision, the live-stream was only viewable during the meeting.
"Not everybody can stream meetings live when we have (the) meetings," trustee Ron Palillo said. "Anything that gives the public more opportunity to see what we do here at the board table is a good thing."
District secretary treasurer Darleen Patterson said there may be a small cost to the district associated with archiving the videos.
Trustee Tim Bennett said he'd advocated for the change previously, when he was chair of the board, but the district hadn't had the capacity at the time to do it.
"I think it's a great idea," Bennett said. "I'm really excited we are in a position to be able to do this."
