School board field reaches 18 candidates

Voters will have 18 candidates to choose from when they elected a new school board on Nov. 19.

Voters will have 18 candidates to choose from when they elected a new school board on Nov. 19.

The candidates are Elona Arnett, Betty Bekkering, Trish Bella, Tim Bennett, Kris Benson, Sharon Bourassa, Andrew Burton, Kate Cooke, Valentine Crawford, Bal Gill, Brenda Hooker, Earl Krushelnicki, Shawn Peters, Don Sabo, David Sewell, Chris Taylor, Sharel Warrington and Rhonda White.

Seven will be elected for a three year term. A chair is selected by elected trustees at their first meeting. The deadline for nominations was 4 p.m. Friday.

- An all candidates meeting is set for the evening of Wednesday, Nov. 9 at the Prince George Playhouse - 7 p.m. start. It's hosted by the District Parent Advisory Council and the Prince George and District Teachers Association.

- The Coalition of Rural Educational Sustainability (CORES), a parent group advocating for rural schools, is encouraging candidates to post their positions on the group's Facebook page to give out-of-town voters an idea of where they stand.
